We are only a third of the way through it. Copyright on my edition says 1956. It's basically about magic adventures through their toys coming alive.

I will go check out that post - I love your blog topics. :)Kristy Powershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10894813104134810960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4794279303705226829.post-38436034435189713162012-05-03T21:09:03.165-07:002012-05-03T21:09:03.165-07:00Love it! I asked him if he thought learning to read would be the end of me reading to him and he confessed that it was. I assured him we'd have family stories for years to come!

I dissected the poem "The Reading Mother" when I realized that, though I loved the poem, I had no idea what books he was referring to! I am looking forward to your blog. Ha...Hi Kristy! I am looking forward to your blog. Have you read the book, The Stepford Wives? If not, I recommend it.

The only thing I have to say in addition to what you've said is that people tend to use the term derogatively...because in the book SW's are robots. So most women don't like the comparison!!

However, I've met PLENTY of women, myself included, that easily & flippantly say, "You call me a Stepford Wife like that is a bad thing!" I always giggle when I load my grocery cart because I do it very orderly (a friend taught me), and I load it just like they do in the SW book!

SW's are ideal women - but so ideal as to be unattainable (perfect body, perfect home, perfect attitude). Of course we know that is impossible, but striving for a peaceful, Godly home is not impossible. And being a Fascinating Woman is also not impossible.

It is true what you said, that women are looking for more of an ideal, and s/t the image of SW comes to mind. Who doesn't want to be that perfect? But the world, of course, uses the term to say "she doesn't have brains, she is a robot, she can't think for herself." I laugh knowing that most of us "Stepford Wives" who revel in being at home are highly educated & CHOSE this way of life! Looking forward to all you have to say! I love being a FW!Janinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10724986884352836333noreply@blogger.com
