"And best of all, their father always read to them for an hour after dinner, even though they'd been able to read perfectly well to themselves for years now."
Love it! I don't believe I've heard of this book. I take it you recommend it? Last year my son was hesitating to learn to read. I asked him if he thought learning to read would be the end of me reading to him and he confessed that it was. I assured him we'd have family stories for years to come!
I dissected the poem "The Reading Mother" when I realized that, though I loved the poem, I had no idea what books he was referring to! I posted it on my blog if you are interested, Kristi. I know we have a lot in common.
Hi, Janine! So far I recommend it. It's well-written and a vocabulary-stretcher, all while being totally fascinating to my six-year-old son. We are only a third of the way through it. Copyright on my edition says 1956. It's basically about magic adventures through their toys coming alive.
I will go check out that post - I love your blog topics. :)
